Now Reading: New Spam Reporting Feature. | Jump To Comments
I have just added new feature to the Community Leaders Blog. The spam form, located along the right just below the subscription button, allows you to report spam that you find on the service. It can be any spam: comment, mainpage, a blog with spam posts, and so forth.
All you need to do to report spam is grab the URL (address) out of your browser in which you saw the spam and click the 'Send Spam Report' button. You must be logged in to do so because this form is actually a private message in disguise with my usernam (LazyBoy) and the Subject already filled in. Basically what you are doing when you enter the url is filling in the message part. So when I receive the message a) I know who reported it since you are logged in b) It has a title that stands out c) the message only has the url, but is all I need for a spam report.
Now, when I get these messages I take a look at the url and see what can be done. The recent outbreak of spam comments from Amazon can't really be prevented (unless you set comments to registered users only - under comment settings) since they don't have blogs here on the service. The Amazon comment spams can only really be deleted - that is unless you see one with an actual username here at EFx2.
So, all in all I hope this helps with spam prevention and removal. I wanted a simple and painless reporting process and this has been tested and works. I already have gotten a report from BBD and am going to take care of it.
Let me know what you think. :-)
Edit: A link has been added to the navigation bar (top) which will take you right to the reporting form when you click on it.
